Week of September 23, 2019

We are Family!
The HCA Families gathered together for the first time this year.  This is a wonderful time for the youngest to the oldest students to get together and work on projects, read a book, or just have fun playing together.  Here are some of the kids working on pennants that have been hung together as a sign of family unity.

Animal Adaptations

Our first science unit is about Animal Adaptations and Classifications.  Students are doing research on their Chromebooks to study an animal of their choice and identify their structural or behavioral adaptations.
The class also had fun conducting an experiment on the adaptations of birds' beaks.  Using a spoon, tweezers, straw, and toothpicks, they found which types of foods are easiest to pick up with their "beaks."

Character Counts

This week's Character Counts students are Scout & Juliana.  He choose "Specialty Seating" and she choose "Bring a Fuzzy Friend to School" as their rewards.  Teachers identified them as exhibiting positive behavior.
Congratulations, Scout & Juliana!

Third Grade's creativity shines!

The Lower School participated in a fun and creative activity together.  After reading the book, Scribble Stones by Diane Alber, they each created their own Scribble Stone. The book emphasized the beauty of individual differences and the creativity in each person.
The Scribble Stones will be placed around the classroom.

Community Time

Lower School and Middle School students gathered together for their first Community Time this year creating "All About Me" tessellations.  Mrs. Mueller will put the pieces together to create a huge school display.  The students enjoyed seeing their friends and working together.

The finished product!

Third Grade has Chromebooks!

The class is very excited to have their very own Chromebooks.  Each student has his/her own Chromebook which will be used as a tool to enhance our Reading, Math, Science, and Social Studies curriculum.  Their first assignment in Science was to use the web site, Creaturepedia, to research how animals adapt to their habitats.

Character Counts!

Zora and Zayne are the first students to achieve  "Character Counts" awards.  Students achieve "tickets" for showing good character - Cooperation, Honesty, Self-Control, Respect, Perseverance, Responsibility, and Patience.  Once he/she receives five tickets, he/she can choose an award.
Zora and Zayne both chose "Specialty Seating" and got to sit in their favorite chairs in their favorite locations for the day.
Congratulations, Zora and Zayne!

Please sign and return the form the following day. The missed assignment will be completed during afternoon recess time.
∙Please initial your child’s homework journal each night.

∙Tests must be signed and returned to school the following day.

Gym Uniforms

Children will come to school in their gym uniforms and sneakers on Days 1 & 5. In colder weather, they are expected to wear a Holy Child sweat suit over their gym suits. On days when we have liturgies, students must wear their school uniform and bring their gym uniform.
