Let's Play Ball!

Students read the biography of baseball great, Roberto Clemente.  They learned that he was great hero both on and off the baseball field.  We received a special surprise when Cora brought in a baseball signed by the 1971 Pittsburgh Pirates, including Roberto Clemente.  Thank you to Cora's grandfather for allowing her to share this special memento.

Halloween Mission Party Fun!
This year's Halloween Mission Party may have looked different, but the Third Grade still had a ton of fun.  Dressed in Scarecrow, Zombie, Hermine, and many more  costumes, students marched in the Lower School Halloween Parade and participated in fun activities planned by the Parents' Association.  Many thanks to Mrs. Rosser and Mrs. Andrews who helped to make it such a great day!

Let's Talk About Race

Author, Julius Lester, included these words in "Let's Talk about Race," “I am a story. So are you.” The book discusses how each individual has many different elements to their "story," from family, to names, to likes and dislikes, and even race. Students participated in a Think-Pair-Share activity to discuss important questions about race, prejudice, and discrimination.  Each child created their own "I Am a Story" poster and explored what makes him/her special.

The Planeteers' Litter Walk
The Third Grade class are The Planeteers.  They help to create a better world by being kind to the Earth and all that live on it.  This week we took our first litter walk around our community.  Afterwards, we discussed why keeping our community clean is so important.
