 Harlem Renaissance Adobe Spark Projects

Black History Month


Third Grade students have focused on influential figures of the Harlem Renaissance during Black History Month.  Each student choose a person to research.  Using a graphic organizer to help organize their research notes, students created their original Adobe Spark Videos.   Just click on each link and take a look at the video. Mardi Gras

Students had fun learning about and celebrating Mardi Gras.  They enjoyed listening to Zydeco music, learning about Mardi Gras traditions, and sampling a classic Moon pie dessert.  







The Third Grade led the HCA school community in prayer and song during last week's Ash Wednesday prayer service. 













This week's Character Count winners are Alexa, Sofia, Cora, Gabbie, and Braelynn.  Congratulations girls!

To celebrate Black History month, the Third Grade class has been learning about influential Black leaders.

Preparing for Ash Wednesday Prayer Service

Students worked in collaborative groups to create posters for the upcoming Ash Wednesday prayer service on February 17th.  Groups focused on Almsgiving, Prayer, Fasting, and Penance.  
The Third Grade will lead this special prayer service.  It will be live streamed for the rest of the HCA community beginning at 8:15 a.m.





Happy Valentine's Day




Classmates enjoyed sharing their Valentines with each other.  




  • Enrollment contracts for the 2021-2022 academic year are due on Friday, February 26th.

  • No School on Monday, February 15th - Presidents' Day Holiday

  • Ash Wednesday Prayer Service - Wednesday, February 17th at 8:15 a.m. Live streamed. Link will be posted.

  • Pre-K and Kindergarten are hosting a sock drive to benefit The Joy of Sox. Please send in NEW socks for men, women, and children and place them in the boxes in your hallway. The drive will run until February 19.

Week of February 1 - 5, 2021

 "You Gotta Have Heart"

We continued our study of the circulatory system this week.  Using multimedia and a model of the heart, students practiced labeling the parts of the heart.  










"Would You Rather?"
Third Graders wrote Opinion Essays based on "Would you Rather?" questions.  Using a graphic organizer, each student brainstormed reasons for his/her choice.  Then, these ideas were put into a five sentence paragraph.  After editing grammar and mechanics, students wrote their good copies.  They enjoyed sharing their persuasive essays with their classmates.   












  • Student Council is selling Candy Grams - $1.00 per candy gram; deadline to purchase is Wednesday February 10th.  Delivery date is Thursday February 11th.

  • February 11th - Observance of Valentine's Day - Dress down day, come to school in casual red or pink clothing.  Share Valentine notes or cards with their classmates. In light of our health and safety guidelines during the pandemic, please refrain from sending in candy, snacks, or any food products. Simple, written expressions of kindness and friendship will help us keep the focus on the spirit of St. Valentine.

  • There is no school on Friday, February 12th (Teacher In-Service) and Monday, February 15th (Presidents' Day).
