We are a Bucket Filling Classroom!
To encourage empathy and kindness for others, the Third Graders are going to be “bucket fillers” this year. We read the book by Carol McCloud which
encourages positive behavior by using the concept of an invisible bucket to show children how rewarding it is to express kindness and appreciation by "filling buckets.” We are so excited to check our “buckets” on Friday to see if we have notes from our classmates. http://www.bucketfillers101.com/
Blessing of the Pets
The annual Blessing of the Pets was held on Friday, October 4th. It is celebration of St. Francis's feast day. The feast commemorates the life of St Francis, who was born in the 12th century and is the Catholic Church's patron saint of animals and the environment. It is a popular day for pets to be “blessed”. Here are some of our 3rd Graders with their pets.
How Was Your Day?
Instead of asking your child,"How was your day?" try these questions instead. Hopefully, they will generate some conversation.
- What made you smile today?
- Can you tell me an example of kindness you saw/showed?
- What was the book about that your teacher read?
- Did anyone do anything silly to make you laugh?
- What did you do that was creative?
- What was the best thing that happened today?
- Did you help anyone today?
- Did you tell anyone “thank you?”
- What made you laugh?
- Did you learn something you didn’t understand?
- Who inspired you today?
- What is something you heard that surprised you?
- What is something you saw that made you think?
- Tell me something you know today that you didn’t know yesterday.
- What is something that challenged you?
- How did someone fill your bucket today? Whose bucket did you fill?
- How were you brave today?
- What questions did you ask at school today?
- What are you looking forward to tomorrow?
- What are you reading?
- What was the hardest rule to follow today?
- Teach me something I don’t know.
- If you could change one thing about your day, what would it be?
- What made your teacher smile? What made her frown?
- What kind of person were you today?
- What made you feel happy?
- What made you feel proud?
- What made you feel loved?
- Did you learn any new words today?
- What do you hope to do before school is out for the year?
