Reading Partners

Students worked cooperatively to complete a story elements worksheet in reading class.   






Weathering and Erosion


We have focused on the topic of Weathering and Erosion in science class this month.  Students have learned the difference between the two and how each one works.  They had a blast conducting their own Erosion Candy experiments.  After making hypotheses about which "rock" would erode the quickest, students experimented with M&M candies, Starburst gummies, and mint candies.  

The M& M's were the fastest to erode when shaken in water in a cup (a river).

Week of May 17 - 21, 2021

 Fractions Fun

Who knew learning about fractions could be so fun, and yummy, too?  Students learned about writing and comparing fractions using M&M manipulatives.  
















This week's Character Counts winner is Jaden.  He chose "Job Swap" as his prize. Congratulations, Jaden!

Week of May 10 - 14, 2021

 

Culture Boxes

As a concluding activity for our social studies topic of immigration, each student created a culture box about their family heritage. Bravo to the third grade on their presentation and creativity.















Soft Rain: A Story of the Cherokee Trail of Tears


The class completed their novel unit on Soft Rain: A Story of the Cherokee Trail of Tears.  Students learned about the Indian Removal Act of 1838 and how it affected thousands of innocent Tsalagi people.  




One assignment was that each student wrote a letter to President Andrew Jackson persuading him to not sign the Act.
