India Unit

The class has learned so much about the varied and rich country of India this month.  As a culminating activity, they worked in pairs on Indian STEAM themed projects.

Projects included:  Creating the Flag of India using Pixie, using Zometools to build the Taj Mahal, composing Indian music using Garageband on an iPad, creating a peacock out of Legos, and making a Cricket stick out of K'nex tools.

Once all the projects were complete, each group wrote a script and everyone worked together to make a Indian tourism commercial.

Mrs. Indira Srinivasan's Class Visit

The students were very fortunate for Sanjay's grandmother, Indira, to come visit the class and share her knowledge of India first hand. She told the class about her own education as a young child, read a story about the god, Genesha, shared the fun of the festivals of Diwali and Holi, showed them how to make Rangoli art pictures, and tempted them with homemade Indian sweet treats. Here are pictures of our time with Mrs. Srinivasan.
Namaste!

HCA Buddy Family Event

Our final HCA Family event was lots of fun.  Each child received a Holy Child beach ball and their "family members" signed it.  What a nice keepsake for the summer.

Choir/Band Trip to Harrisburg Capitol Building and Hershey's Chocolate World

The Junior and Senior Choirs and HCA Band boarded a luxury bus bound for Harrisburg, PA last Friday.  They had the opportunity to sing on the steps of the Harrisburg Capital Rotunda and take a tour of the building with Representative Zabel.  They sang like angels and had a blast walking on the floor of the House of Representatives.  They even got a chance to sit in the seats and press "Yay" or "Nay."
Getting ready to board the bus!
We've arrived!

After lunch, we boarded the bus again and headed to Hershey Chocolate World in Hershey, PA.  Once there, we went on the Chocolate World tour and learned how chocolate is made.  Then we watched the 4D Movie and had fun taste testing and voting on Hershey's dark and light chocolates.
A great day was had by all.

A big THANK YOU to Mrs. Antczek who planned and organized our trip and to Ms. Brown and Mr. Norton for preparing the students.  It was also nice for Mrs. Nast, Mr. Srinivasan, and Mr. and Mrs. White to join us on the trip, as well.

Measuring Math

The Golden Pups' math group have been studying how to measure the perimeter and area of squares and rectangles.  Here they are figuring out the perimeter and area of the large mural hanging in the hallway of HCA.

It's so much fun "acting out" math.  Here they are forming lines, shapes, and angles.
